All Saints Hospital co-produce The Recovery Mural

All Saints Hospital in Oldham is a specialist mental health service supporting men who are deaf and who have complex communication needs. Earlier this year, the hospital undertook an inspiring project to enhance the environment within the service, inviting an artist in to co-produce and create murals.

The Recovery Mural, led by Dr Maria Hayes, incorporated the ideas and visions of the peopleMural who use the service, who also used their artistic skills to help paint the mural along with the professional artist. People were supported to generate their own ideas and paint using their own techniques and the results are fantastic.

The completed mural features many individual elements as created by the people supported at the service including nods to science fiction, football and nature. Working alongside an interpreter using BSL, they expressed themselves freely, sharing their ideas and designs before using their arts skills to make them come to life on the wall.

The finished result is both homely and welcoming and the project was very much enjoyed by the people supported at All Saints who are rightly very proud of their accomplishments.
