Annual Medical Conference: September 2024

Medical colleagues from across Elysium will gather this month for the organisation’s Annual Medical Conference where they will hear from leading experts in the sector.

The event is being chaired by Elysium’s Chief Medical Officer and Executive Operational Director Professor Quazi Haque.

The event’s speakers will share their expertise and insights into theconference presenting challenges and solutions those working in the profession face in delivering care in the 21st century and explore topics including the national and local priorities in service transformation, designing the psychiatric workforce of the future, understanding neurodiversity, human rights in the digital age and what can be achieved in psychiatry and sustainability.

Delegates will hear from speakers including Dr Caroline Jacob, Elysium’s Group Associate Medical Director who will present alongside colleagues Dr Shuja Reagu, Clinical Director for Wales and Phil Coombes, Elysium’s Clinical Director of Clinical Projects & Group Trauma Specialist Advisor. Their presentation will focus on ‘Models of Care – A Need for Change’.

Elysium’s Digital Roadmap will be presented by David Ewing, Elysium’s Chief Information Officer and Martin Bluck, the organisation’s Business Systems Director while Chief People Officer Lucie Portas and Dr Harinder Bains, Group Associate Medical Director will share an update on Elysium’s medical workforce.

Neurodivergence and ADHD will be explored by Dr Bhathika Perera, Associate Professor UCL & Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disabilities at North East London Foundation Trust and Professor Piyal Sen, Medical Director at Elysium service Chadwick Lodge will speak about ‘Psychiatry and Human Rights – The science, the politics and the humanity’.

The topic of ‘Using QI to Solve Complex Problems’ and an overview of QI projects across Elysium will be explored by Megan Georgiou, Group Quality Improvement Lead; Louise Kennedy, Lead Psychologist, Victoria Gardens & Crossley Place and Dr Sindhu Ashim, Regional Medical Director, Northwest.

In a session chaired by Andy Wadley, Director of NHS Contracts, Integrated Systems and Sustainability Lead, Dr Stuart D’Arch Smith, Consultant Psychiatrist & Sustainability Expert, NHS Wales will delve into ‘Sustainability and Mental Health’.

The day will conclude with a session on ‘Improving Quality Projects – Contributions from The SAS Network’ where medical colleagues from around Elysium will present on quality improvement projects from their individual services. This will be followed by a closing address by Elysium’s Chief Executive Officer Joy Chamberlain and Professor Haque.
