Elysium Healthcare’s Cotswold Spa School has been rated outstanding by Ofsted for the second inspection in a row.

Inspectors found the school was outstanding in all areas and said that its promotion of pupils’ personal development was ‘exemplary’. Staff have high expectations for the pupils, they found, which pupils respond well to.
They also praised the school’s ‘expert teachers’ whose support enables children to make ‘rapid progress’ and not only catch up of their missed learning, but many ‘forge ahead and achieve exceptional outcomes’.
There was praise too for the high levels of mutual respect between students and the staff team who support them.
The report added: “Pupils’ health, well-being and success are at the heart of everything the school does. Pupils have extremely positive attitudes towards their education. They work hard, take pride in their success and show great resilience in the classroom. As a result, pupils learn and achieve well.”
The school forms part of Cotswold Spa Hospital, which supports children and young people with an eating disorder. It is a registered independent school and exam centre. All of the young people from Key Stage 3 through to GCSEs and A-Levels are encouraged to attend school during term time to minimise disruption to their education while they are being treated in hospital.
Catherine Woodsmith, Head teacher at the school, said: “We’re all overjoyed with this result! We work hard to give students the best possible experience in our school, and it was extremely heartening to receive recognition from Ofsted that there is nothing they think we could be doing better. We love the job and find every day rewarding, but this stamp of approval is a brilliant bonus. Thank you to all the school team for working so hard and to the hospital team for your ever-present collaboration and valuable support during the inspection.”
