Integrity –
being honest and doing the right thing
Teamwork –
working together to deliver great care and outcomes
Excellence –
being outstanding at what we do
Our Objective
Our overarching objective is to ensure that all students at the school receive a curriculum that whilst maintaining its breadth, is personalised to meet every individual’s needs within the context of assisting in the care and treatment programme facilitated in conjunction with the hospital.
Mission Statement
Our aim is to deliver a bespoke, high quality learning experience akin to that which students are familiar within their current or previous educational setting. No student will be allowed to feel left behind with their studies or unable to access their chosen subjects because of being in hospital.
We work closely with the team at the hospital to provide a holistic programme which meets the needs of every student. We use the hospital admission process to address any gaps in a young person’s knowledge and help students by addressing any educational challenges that they may face. Fostering resilience, independence and confidence in a young person’s attitude towards their studies is key to our success and all are encouraged to maintain a healthy balance between their studies and well-being.
Our school environment is located on the hospital site and is a welcoming, bright space that fosters learning. The classroom environment is designed to meet the specific learning needs of our students and includes designated spaces for students who required a highly structured learning environment.
Many of our students enjoy contributing to their learning area with inspiring quotations and creative pieces of artwork. The school is a calm and purposeful environment, supported by our high standards and expectations in areas such as behaviour and attendance.
Rhodes Wood Hospital School is committed to providing an environment in which all students can feel safe, happy, accepted and confident, so that they are able to develop to their full potential and successfully return to education.
We promote a safe place to succeed in every way so that young people can:
- Find their voice
- Realise their potential
- Form their future
Our Specialist Team
We understand the importance of providing learning opportunities that are stimulating, enjoyable, and challenging, all within an environment where young people feel safe, supported, and encouraged to take risks and make progress. Achieving this vision, however, requires a dedicated and skilled staff team committed to helping each young person realize their full potential.
To meet the diverse needs of our young people, our teachers bring extensive experience in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with a specific focus on eating disorders. They are supported by a team of teaching assistants and medical staff, who collaborate to provide a comprehensive, well-rounded support system.
Our holistic care and treatment program is seamlessly integrated with the school’s educational provision. More detailed information about this can be found on the hospital pages. We also highly value the contributions from home schools, local authorities, and parents/carers, all of whom play a crucial role in helping to achieve the highest expectations and positive outcomes for our students.
Every young person is assigned an education keyworker, a central figure in our approach. This individual is responsible for overseeing the progress and achievements of the student at every stage of their stay with us. Through regular meetings and a tailored timetable, we empower each young person to take responsibility for both their learning and behaviour, providing them with opportunities to make informed choices that will positively shape their futures.
At the heart of our approach is the development of positive, respectful relationships, where young people are encouraged to engage in meaningful dialogue with adults and actively participate in decisions regarding their education and aspirations. Our ultimate aim is for every young person to achieve their personal goals, gain independence, and obtain qualifications that enable them to fully engage with their community, leading fulfilling and happy lives.
