Elysium Healthcare Annual Medical Conference 2024

The recent Elysium Annual Medical Conference brought together colleagues for a day of learning and sharing of best practice.

Led by Elysium Chief Medical Officer and Executive Operational Director Professor Quazi Haque, the event was an opportunity for the organisation’s 100-plus medical colleagues to hear from leading speakers on a range of topical and relevant subjects.

The day began with ‘Models of Care – A Need for Change’, led by Dr Caroline Jacob, Group Associate Medical Director, Phil Coombes, Clinical Director of Clinical Projects and Group Trauma Specialist Advisor and Dr Shuja Reagu, Clinical Director for Wales.

The team shared an overview of the latest guidance, standards and frameworks which are influencing how services are designed, developed and delivered, and how clinical practice may be impacted. In their session they also explored trauma informed care as well as the barriers to its implementation.

Throughout the day Elysium colleagues shared important updates on the digital journey the organisation is taking in system improvements and enhancements as well as innovative approaches to building a sustainable medical workforce. Sustainability and mental health, using QI to solve complex problems and the subject of psychiatry and human rights were also explored. There were also presentations from colleagues from within the SAS network.

Delegates also heard from guest speaker Dr Bhathika Perera, Associate Professor at UCL and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist in Intellectual Disabilities NELFT who spoke on neurodivergence and ADHD. In his presentation, Dr Perera explored the challenges in assessing, diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in people who have co-morbidities including autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability or mental health illness.
