Emerald Place: Surrey and Borders and Elysium Healthcare partnership unit has been named in collaboration with young people

We’re delighted to be working alongside Surrey and Borders to create Emerald Place, which will open by the end of 2023.

Emerald Place is a brand-new mental health inpatient unit for young people in Surrey. Surrey and Borders, in partnership with Elysium Healthcare, will build and manage the new 12 bed unit. The partnership brings together complementary expertise and best practice to jointly operate the facility and deliver a high-quality service.

The name of the unit has been chosen by young people following a creative workshop. An enthusiastic group of young people took part in the workshop, which was held in Guildford at the end of October, where they collaborated and generated ideas. The participants wanted a name which didn’t sound clinical, appealed to a range of ages and evoked imagery. There was a clear favourite – Emerald Place, which the young people felt symbolised soothing energy, freshness, and vitality.

Construction work began in September, and the interior design and artwork for Emerald Place will now be designed to tone, and complement, the name.
