Investing in the next generation of healthcare professionals has never been so important. Elysium, along with the Ramsay group, run a Global Graduate Programme, which not only offers the opportunity for graduates to undertake meaningful and impactful projects, there are also opportunities to experience working overseas. Senior HR Business Partner at Elysium, Nic Sandhu tells us more.
“Elysium joined the Ramsay family of companies in January 2022 and the Global Graduate Programme is something which is much valued by Ramsay across the world; the organisation’s Managing Director and CEO Craig McNally is himself a former participant in Ramsay’s graduate scheme and knows the huge impact it can have on a graduate’s future career.
“Alongside Ramsay UK, we have five ‘locally hired’ graduates in this year’s cohort. The process is that following an application and assessment process, we appoint the successful candidates to one or either organisation and they begin their first UK ‘rotation’. They work with a particular area of the organisation on a specific and meaningful project; it has to be challenging and it has to have a real impact. This is real work and real experience. It has to be something that moves the business forward. It’s not getting the teas and coffees! These are paid roles, not internships.
“For example, one graduate created and improved a governance framework and another has been working on a project to attract and develop psychology professionals.
“The graduates then complete an international rotation at a Ramsay Group location and again, they spend eight months there. This is an opportunity to experience working overseas on a meaningful and impactful project. It gives them the chance to experience a global role. These are future leaders and this sort of experience is invaluable.
“For their third rotation, again for eight months, the graduates return to the UK and are based at one of our sites and work on another project there.

“Recently, graduates were offered the opportunity to present their projects to our Chief Executive Officer and other members of the Board. It was an amazing opportunity to present and engage with senior colleagues at an early stage in their career, which I know everyone enjoyed.
“We also welcome international graduates from Ramsay locations overseas to the UK for their eight month rotation, most recently from Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
“Our graduates are not specifically required to have completed a healthcare related degree, but it is preferred. They must however have graduated in the previous three years of entering the programme. It is an excellent programme to springboard a career in the healthcare.
“It has a combination of corporate, operational and overseas opportunities, a chance to work on meaningful projects, a structured learning programme and a customised Individual Development Plan. Each of our graduates also has an executive sponsor and a placement buddy in each rotation.
“It is a chance for a graduate with an interest in healthcare to drive their career while building key competencies and leadership capabilities. As an organisation, we’re passionate about developing colleagues and this programme really does that.”
