Rehabilitation Service – Brenig Ward

Our goal is to deliver co-produced, recovery-focused care that empowers individuals to build hope, confidence, and independence-ultimately supporting a successful transition back into the community. We work collaboratively with service users to identify their needs and develop personalised care plans that promote meaningful outcomes and strengthen their occupational identity.

Who We Support

We support individuals who:

  • Are men aged 18 to 65
  • Have a primary diagnosis of mental illness, including those with a secondary diagnosis of:
    • Mild learning disabilities
    • Autism
    • Personality Disorder (PD)
  • Exhibit behaviours that challenge or are perceived to challenge services
  • Have a history of substance or alcohol misuse
  • Have experienced trauma
  • Are stepping down from secure services or have a forensic history
  • Identify as men (transitioning or not), non-binary, gender fluid, gender non-conforming,  or gender queer
  • Are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) or are informal patients
  • Are aiming for a return to community-based care

 

Referrals

We accept referrals from NHS services, Local Health Boards, and community teams. Assessments can be arranged within 72 hours.

 

Acute Inpatient Service – Alwen Ward

Our 14-bed acute service provides rapid-response care for men experiencing a mental health crisis. We offer a safe, stabilising environment for individuals who cannot be supported in the community, with a strong focus on early intervention and recovery.

  • 24/7 emergency admissions
  • Crisis management in the least restrictive setting
  • Multidisciplinary support for complex presentations

 

Who We Support

  • Men aged 18 and over
  • Likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act
  • Diagnosed with mental illness, including:
    • Schizophrenia
    • Affective disorders
    • Personality disorders
    • May have co-occurring substance misuse or mild learning disabilities

 

Referrals

We accept referrals from A&E, Section 136 suites, and other acute services. Available 24/7, 365 days a year, with a 1-hour turnaround (subject to clinical information).
