Moorlands team celebrate ‘good’ rating from the CQC

Elysium Neurological is delighted to announce that Moorlands Neurological Centre has been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.

In a glowing report, all five of the inspection criteria – is the service safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led? – were rated as ‘Good’.

The report praised the neurobehavioural hospital service and in particular the team for their compassion and kindness.

Andy Brand, CQC Deputy Director of Operations in the Midlands said:

“People gave positive feedback about staff treating them with compassion, kindness and involving them in decisions about their care. They said the environment was safe, clean and well maintained and that there were lots of facilities and activities.

“External partners also gave positive feedback and told us that the therapy team worked hard to ensure discharges were safe, and people and their families were fully prepared for integration back into the community when the time came.

“Everyone at the centre should be really proud of the improvements they’ve made.”

Hospital Director, Nicola Swift said that she was delighted that her team had achieved this recognition from the CQC.

“We have a fantastic MDT here at Moorlands and this report recognises the quality of care that they provide for our patients. I’m very proud of all the positive outcomes we achieve for patients and the positive difference we make to people’s lives.”

The regulatory success coincides with the completion of a new 10-bed mixed ward at Moorlands Neurological Centre, to complement the two existing male wards at the service.

Foxglove ward is comprised of 8 beds, plus two flatlets that enable more tailored individual accommodation and support.

Nicola added: “We’re excited about the completion of our new ward because it means we can increase the number of people we support. Individuals with neurobehavioural needs are often prevented from making progress with their lives due to lack of appropriate facilities, but we can now offer a bigger solution to this problem.

“In particular we’re delighted with our new flatlets which provide an important step towards independence, whilst still retaining some support. There was a gap for this type of neurobehavioural rehabilitation in the area and we are pleased that we can now support the whole pathway of care.”

Moorlands Neurological Centre is situated in beautiful rolling countryside and has multiple communal and therapy spaces throughout.
