Specialist in-patient eating disorder service Rhodes Wood Hospital has been praised by quality inspectors for its high-quality, person-centred care. Following its latest inspection, the hospital, based in Hatfield in Hertfordshire, has been rated Good in all areas by the health sector regulator CQC (Care Quality Commission).
During its latest quality visit, the hospital’s CYPMHS wards were specifically inspected in the areas of ‘safe’ and ‘well-led’, and both were rated Good.
In their report, CQC inspectors praised the proactive learning culture at Rhodes Wood, along with its effective systems, processes and practices, noting that the hospital is “consistently managed and well-led” and is a place where “leaders and the culture they create promote high-quality, person-centred care”
The hospital, which supports children and young people aged 8-18 who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder, is led by Hospital Director Vincent Cheung.
Vincent said: “This incredible achievement reflects the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of our entire team and we couldn’t have done it without the trust of the patients we support, families, stakeholders, and wider community.
“I would like to say thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Your trust, encouragement, and collaboration have helped us reach this milestone.”
Rhodes Wood Hospital offers an evidence-based inpatient treatment programme focusing on moderate to severe eating disorders, with treatment programmes tailored to the needs of each young person. There is also an on-site Ofsted-registered school to support children and young people in continuing their education while in hospital. This helps to ease reintegration/transition to home when they are ready for discharge.
