Rhodes Wood Hospital Praised In Latest CQC Report

Inspectors have praised the “high-quality personalised care” provided at Rhodes Wood Hospital, a specialist CAMHS inpatient eating disorder service in Hatfield.

 

The hospital, part of Elysium Healthcare, provides treatment and care for young people aged between eight and 18 across its three specialist wards.

 

Following their most recent inspection of the hospital, in which they graded the hospital as “Good”, inspectors from the Care Quality Commission said that staff at Rhodes Wood treated patients at the hospital with “compassion and kindness” and praised care planning which they described as “personalised, holistic and recovery-oriented”.

 

Staff at the hospital, they said, were: “Discreet, respectful, and responsive when caring for children and young people.” Leadership was also noted with the final report stating: “There was compassionate, inclusive and effective leadership at all levels. Leaders had the skills knowledge and experience to consistently deliver high quality personalised care.”

 

Inspectors spoke with patients and their families and carers during their visit. Children said they felt safe supported at the hospital while relatives said staff were “kind, caring and respectful”. The team working at the hospital were praised also for their “shared vision and determination to deliver consistently high quality sustainable care”. Staff, the report noted, were “very proud of the service”.

Physical health was also prioritised by the Rhodes Wood team, with inspectors noting:

“They ensured that children and young people had good access to physical healthcare and supported them to live healthier lives.”

 

Staff also supported children and young people with activities outside the service and made sure children and young people had access to high quality education throughout their time on the ward.

 

The report also noted aspects of care and support offered at Rhodes Wood including pet therapy, which had been requested patients at the hospital and which had been successful in supporting children in times of difficulty and crisis.
