Stanley House becomes second care home in England to be accredited by the Huntington’s Disease Association.

Herefordshire care home Stanley House has become only the second care home in England to be accredited by the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA).

The Elysium Healthcare neurological complex care service has been recognised for its specialist care for people with Huntington’s.

Huntington’s Disease is a genetic condition which stops parts of the brain working properly over time. Stanley House supports up to 41 people with complex neurological conditions, including Huntington’s.

Trevor Irwin, Neurological Services Operations Director for Elysium said: “We’re delighted that Stanley House has achieved this prestigious and important accreditation which recognises the high standards of care it provides for people with Huntington’s disease. We’re incredibly proud of the team and to be only the second home in the country to achieve this accreditation is testament to their hard work and dedication to the people supported at Stanley House.”

The Huntington’s Disease Association is a registered charity which works to improve care and support services for people with Huntington’s, educate families and professionals and champion people’s rights. It is the only charity in the UK dedicated to helping people affected by the illness live better lives.

To achieve the accreditation Stanley House undertook a rigorous assessment period and robust two-day inspection. The assessment also required the team from the service, families and the people supported at Stanley House to provide feedback.

Only a small number of homes a year are able to attain the HDA Quality Assured accreditation and every two years, accredited homes will be required to re-accredit in order to ensure standards are continuously maintained.
