Having a part-time job has been truly life-changing for a person supported at The Chimneys.
Anita* started her part-time job in a local charity shop towards the end of last year. Securing the work was a significant milestone for her as she had thought previously that she would never be able to go for an interview or hold down a job.
Since starting her role, Anita has found the positive impact on her life has taken different forms, with one of the most important being included.
Hospital Director Laura Herdman explained: “Anita takes her role very seriously and is very conscientious. As well as enjoying the work, the social aspect has been incredibly beneficial for Anita.
“One of the most valuable experiences for her was being invited to the staff Christmas party. It may seem like a small thing, but that simple act of being included and valued in this way, and all of the benefits that has had on her self-confidence and sense of worth cannot be underestimated.
“Work has opened up opportunities for Anita to experience things like this that she’d never experienced before. It has helped her make friends and expand her social circle. Being included has meant more to her than many could imagine.
“Because it was a new experience for her, Anita asked if the team could support her going along, which we were happy to do. Of course, she had a lovely time on the night itself, but it’s those long-reaching positive impacts that will continue to resonate for Anita for a very long time to come.”
