Today is Zero Discrimination Day. We spoke with Nicky Lintott, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Elysium Healthcare about the introduction of the organisation’s Zero Tolerance Corporate Statement, and why it is such an important document.
“Zero Discrimination Day gives us space to think really carefully how we treat one another and why our Zero Tolerance Corporate Statement is so important to who we are as an organisation.
“At Elysium, we are clear that discrimination, bullying, harassment, violence or abuse have no place here. Everyone – colleagues and the people we support, their families and visitors – deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued.
“Respecting difference is essential to an inclusive culture. Every person brings their own unique identity and it is our responsibility to make sure that protected characteristics are never a basis for unfair treatment.
“That means that personal or political views shouldn’t influence the way we work, how we support the people who use our services or how we interact with colleagues. And the way we behave and act should always reflect our Elysium values, regardless of our individual beliefs.
“We want to ensure that everyone, no matter their background or protected characteristics, feels genuinely valued and included. Our focus is on building an environment where diversity is celebrated and where political, personal, or ideological beliefs do not shape how we support the people in our services or how we interact with colleagues. Every individual deserves dignity and fairness, and each of us plays a role in making that a reality.
“The Zero Tolerance Corporate Statement was created to support clarity, confidence and protection. It reinforces our commitment to acting quickly and fairly, to supporting those affected and holding individuals accountable when it’s needed. Inclusion isn’t passive, it needs all of us to actively challenge discrimination and create a positive environment for others.
“By speaking up and standing together, we strengthen our culture and help ensure everyone is treated with dignity and respect.”
