More information about All Saints Hospital
The service comprises of two wards; a Low Secure and Level 2 rehabilitation service which offers four bedsits and four self-contained flats, providing a clear pathway for recovery from admission to discharge.
The service at All Saints Hospital is culturally sensitive and offers programmes for D/deaf men who may have additional communication needs and require specialist care. This is inclusive of service users with a forensic history.
Many staff members at All Saints Hospital are D/deaf, which brings a unique perspective to service delivery. Deaf and hearing staff work together as a team to support effective communication and learning for all in the interests of patients.
As a service provider to D/deaf individuals, Elysium ensures compliance with the Equality Act in all aspects of its work and delivers excellence in terms of innovation in practice.
Support offered at All Saints Hospital:
The “All About Me” framework is central to the service and lends itself well to the concept of co-production with patients. This ensures that patients are at the centre of decision-making and formulation of care and treatment plans.
The Rehabilitation and Recovery approach at All Saints Hospital dictates that care is ‘person-centred’ as opposed to ‘disease-centred’. For D/deaf people, this necessitates that staff are grounded in an understanding of the impact of D/deafness on development and mental health and how assessment and treatment needs to be adapted to suit those from within a D/deaf culture. In practice, this means a high proportion of D/deaf staff, use of BSL at all times and being familiar with the D/deaf community and culture.
At All Saints Hospital, principles of Least Restrictive Practice are maintained. The service operates within procedures and protocols that match the needs of the patient group to ensure therapeutic progress while minimising risks. Where an individual needs a greater degree of restriction usually observed in a particular ward/service, this is risk assessed, discussed with the patient, clearly documented and reviewed with the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
Within the service, there are Vocational Opportunities available to the patients in the form of work role opportunities. In addition, patients can access a wide range of volunteer roles in the local community. Given the proximity of All Saints Hospital to Manchester City Centre, the occupational therapy team can also assist with the identification and application process depending on the individual’s particular interests.
Educational opportunities are also available for patients on request. They can be supported in accessing the local college or other skill development courses to promote independence in preparation for discharge into the community.
All treatment programmes are adapted to meet the needs of the service’s D/deaf patients. Various assessments are used including HCR-20, RSVP (where applicable), START and HoNOS. Each incident is captured on the IRIS system. Trends analyses take place to ensure that the MDT are aware of any changes to risk presentation and this is acted on accordingly.
Location:
All Saints Hospital is well located in relation to public transport links. Patients can access the Manchester Bus and Tram network which assists them with widening their community links. For patients with a forensic history or Ministry of Justice (MoJ) restriction, staff within the nursing and occupational therapy teams can assist patients in accessing the local community to ensure that they’re able to maintain their independence and retain a social role.
