More information about Gateway Recovery Centre

Gateway Recovery Centre aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of patients in the service and help them to develop and maintain healthy relationships with others.

The hospital is split into separate service types:

Ash Ward is a Level 2 rehabilitation service for older men with mental illness and co-morbid physical health conditions. Patients are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (Amended 2007), often under forensic sections and often have significant physical health issues. Ash Ward’s goal is to help these patients move into specialist community settings with nursing.

Beech Ward and Fir Ward are Level 2 rehabilitation services for women with severe mental disorders including mental illness/trauma-related conditions, co-morbid Personality Disorder (PD) or Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Women who enter the service have struggled to maintain their own safety despite community support and treatment. They may not yet be ready to fully commit to psychological treatment.

Cedar Ward is a Level 2 rehabilitation service for men with autism spectrum disorders and co-morbid mental health problems or disorders. The service provides person-centred care, providing rehabilitation and support for people working towards a move into community settings.

Dove Ward is a low-secure care setting for men with a mental illness with or without a Personality Disorder (PD) or mild learning disability. Dove Ward offers a slow stream, low secure service for men who have been in secure services for many years. They may have offences which make it difficult for them to move to step-down services.

Elm Ward is an acute inpatient service, specialising in the assessment and treatment of women in crisis or suffering from significant mental health problems. The service supports a recovery-focused approach, with the provision of fully person-centred care in the least restrictive environment possible. The dedicated team aim to facilitate stabilisation and promote recovery, with the goal of community reintegration and fostering independence.
